Tax Resolution Questions?
What happens after I hire you for Tax Resolution?
Tax Resolution starts, and sometimes ends in 3 easy steps.
1st we’ll need Basic Taxpayer Information to generate necessary IRS required forms:
- Step 1 and Step 2 – (both forms can be filled online).
- Step 3. You will be provided a “pre-filled” IRS power of attorney form. Sign and date line 7 of page 2. Once the form is signed / returned, and any provided evidence is gathered an initial call with the IRS is scheduled.
- After the discovery we will present you with the findings and offer the best course of actions to resolve any outstanding balances with the IRS.

What if I have a levy/lien on my account, scheduled to be garnished or being garnished by the IRS?
- Upon initial contact with the IRS or officer assigned to you, we request that any garnishment and/or levy/lien be released while we present your evidence, or work to resolve the balance. We can not guarantee the request will be granted, especially if you are not in compliance.
- If you are not in compliance, the officer will inform us of any compliance requirements. Once we achieve compliance, the request is most often granted.
Does the IRS ever remove interest owed?
Yes, when it’s been proven / determined that an error was made on their part.
Does the IRS remove penalties?
Yes, if the penalties are due to an error on their part. Otherwise, the IRS is under no obligation to remove penalties. Although, in many cases, we will request penalties be removed, and are often successful. Penalties are most often removed when a taxpayer / client is not habitually recurring penalties.
Who might consider Tax Resolution?
Past clients have sought tax resolution with us for a number of reasons, here we name a few:
- Unpaid penalties, interest and a balance that you could at one-time afford, but can no longer afford due to a change in “present day” financial circumstances.
- The IRS sent you a collection notice, and you’re certain they made an error (this happens a lot).
- A very popular reason IRS letters and IRS problems arise is when you don’t file your taxes for several years. You may want a licensed tax professional to prepare and file your back taxes. Often times just filing your previous years taxes will clear up any unresolved balances.
- The IRS might have a general issue with a tax return, and you want it cleared up.
- Tax return errors: you, or your tax professional may have made an error on a previous tax return (this happens a lot).
- The IRS might audit you to verify the appropriate amount of income and deductions is being reported. You may want a licensed and experienced tax professional to represent you.

How Long Does It Take to Resolve Tax Problems?
Every case is different, we have cases that are resolved in one phone call, and cases that last over a year. On average most cases are closed within 3 – 4 months.
Taxpayer forms and requests to the IRS have predetermined time allotted for processing. Most of the time, these requests exceed the IRS deadline / timeline. The IRS releases publications frequently, we encourage taxpayers to visit their website for information IRS Operations: Status of Mission-Critical Functions.
The approximate time it takes to resolve a taxpayers IRS problem can be estimated by some of the following factors:
- The IRS account problem itself (this is found after researching the clients transcripts and/or an initial call to the IRS).
- The tax resolution option chosen by the client after finding the problem.
- The time it takes the tax professional to fix the problem.
- The time it takes the client to review, sign/return documents as or if requested.
- Finally, the time it takes the IRS to process the changes or adjustments.
Is My Tax Situation Too Difficult to Fix?
We’ve helped taxpayers of all sorts, there’s NO tax situation or taxpayer that can surprise us:
- We’ve helped taxpayers / clients save their homes.
- We’ve helped taxpayers stop wage garnishment.

- We’ve represented taxpayers already sentenced to federal penitentiary for white collar crimes.
- We’ve even represented clients who were at one-time tax preparers, or had a tax preparation business.
What’s a Tax Discovery?
A discovery in our office is a combination of:
- What the IRS is claiming (via phone call with IRS Officer / IRS Notices/Letters).
- What the client is claiming (including any evidence the client has provided).
- What the IRS transcripts or past tax filings reveal.
The discovery is identifying the root cause of a tax issue, and the initial step in resolving a clients tax balance(s) / or tax problem.
What Tax Resolution Options Are Available?
There’s times when a simple amended tax return will resolve an issue, and many instances when new clients just need prior year taxes filed. Aside from amended taxes and prior year tax filing, we’ve listed a few common IRS debt / balance relief solutions:

Why Does Tax Resolution Cost More than Tax Preparation?
With tax preparation the price and service can be gauged because it’s more of a predictable service. Tax prep consists of gathering a clients tax documents, preparing the taxes on relevant IRS forms, gathering signatures, and finally electronically filing the forms.
Tax resolution on the other-hand, is not always so cut-n-dry. An enrolled agent, CPA, or attorney will process a power of attorney to represent you. Tax resolution cost take into consideration the time and work invested in completing a case start to finish.
